Atlassian Rovo in Australia, from a partner prepared to tell you to wait
If you hold an eligible Atlassian Cloud subscription, Rovo may already be included. Whether it is worth using yet depends on your content, workflows and permissions.

A good Rovo demo does not prove your environment is ready
A demo shows the capability can work. Six layers decide whether it works on yours.
- KnowledgeIs the source material current, owned and accurate? Stale sources produce confident answers that are wrong.
- Process and workflowAutomating an inconsistent process reproduces it faster. Would two teams describe the workflow the same way?
- Permissions and data boundariesRovo honours existing permissions, but honouring a model is not validating it. Audit it.
- OwnershipFor customer-facing or operational use, Senzo recommends an owner, review path, human escalation and off switch.
- MeasurementAgree the measure, baseline, review date and owner before the pilot starts.
- ScopeProve one bounded use case first: trusted sources, bounded actions, a measurable outcome.
What Atlassian has switched on, and where it runs
Atlassian's pages differ on which editions are eligible, and activation can need admin action, so confirm yours.
- Included plansStandard, Premium and Enterprise Cloud plans of Jira, Confluence, Jira Service Management and the Service and Teamwork Collections.
- Rovo StandardA standalone subscription for users without those apps, in beta.
- Data CenterConnectors bring Data Center content to Rovo in Cloud, separate from a full Cloud migration.
- CreditsUsage is metered in credits pooled across the organisation: a licensing conversation at renewal.
Where your data goes, and what Atlassian publishes about it
Confirm your arrangement with Atlassian and your own advisers.
- Generating a responseBy default, data goes to third-party providers, using Atlassian-hosted and third-party-hosted models.
- Atlassian-hosted LLMsBy request, eligible Cloud Enterprise organisations keep prompts from external providers. Coverage varies; Atlassian documents it as US-hosted.
- Excluded from data contributionGovernment-associated organisations (except government-run education), Government Cloud, Isolated Cloud, customer-managed key and HIPAA-configured organisations.
- ResidencyAustralia is a published Rovo region, but only in-scope data is pinned, and residency alone does not place AI inference here.
- Admin controlsRovo switches off per app, but shared Jira-family features stay on while any app has it enabled.
Worth doing now, worth waiting
Waiting is a real recommendation, and still productive: retiring stale content, clarifying a workflow and fixing ownership help either way.
Worth doing now when
- The use case is defined and bounded
- Its source material is trustworthy and reachable
- Someone owns governance and review
- Success can be measured against a trusted baseline
- The Cloud footprint and access controls are understood
Worth waiting when
- The objective is "do something with AI"
- Nobody can establish the sources' ownership or reliability
- No owner or escalation path is agreed
- There is no baseline and no agreed test
- Deployment or security dependencies are unresolved
The free Rovo readiness review
Part of our Atlassian consulting practice.
- What it isA senior consultant reviews your use case, its sources, and your Atlassian products, plans and deployment.
- What you getA written assessment against the six layers, the use case to prove first, and a recommendation: proceed, prepare or wait.
- What it is notEnvironment access, a knowledge base audit, agent configuration or a proof of concept: paid work.
Frequently asked questions
Do we already have Rovo?
If you hold an eligible paid Cloud subscription of Jira, Confluence or Jira Service Management, it is included. Whether it is activated, configured or governed is another matter.
Is Rovo available on Atlassian Data Center?
The full capability runs in Cloud. Atlassian's connectors expose Data Center content to Rovo in Cloud, alongside an active Cloud plan, while those instances stay self-managed.
Does Atlassian use our data to train AI models?
Inputs may go to third-party LLM providers, which Atlassian publishes do not retain or train on them. Atlassian may tune its own models on de-identified metadata (switchable off only on Enterprise) and, since 17 August 2026, use in-app data (off on any plan).
Does a Rovo agent need a Jira Service Management agent licence?
Three things share the word. A Rovo agent is software, the virtual service agent is a distinct capability, and a Jira Service Management agent is a licensed person. Atlassian leaves the commercial question open, so confirm the licensing treatment.
Should we start now?
Sometimes not. Start when your use case's sources, permissions, ownership and success criteria are understood. A search pilot and a virtual service agent need different preparation.
Sources and currency (1), last checked 18 October 2026
- Checked against Atlassian's documentation on 8 October 2026, and AI data contribution on 18 October 2026: Rovo plans and Rovo Standard, Data Center connectors, Rovo usage, AI trust, AI data contribution, Atlassian-hosted LLMs, data residency and administration. Where this page and Atlassian's documentation disagree, Atlassian's is correct.
